The Beginning:
Wandering off the streets of Japan, Yusuke noticed a little boy, whose
ball rolled over to his side, playing beside the road. Noticing the cars
passing by, he picked up the ball, handed it to the boy, and left after
telling him not to play there. Still, the boy persisted and continued
playing. When his ball rolled in the middle of the road, he went to pick
it up, not noticing the car that was coming by at top speed. Seeing
this, the boy stood there, frozen on the spot. Yusuke moved in fluid
motion as he pushed the boy out of the car's way. Miraculously, the
child survived, and Yusuke ended up dying.
Fortunately, he met Rei kai's Deity of Death,
Botan. She
told him he already passed away, and that he has to meet Koenma Daioh,
the Prince of Rei kai (Spirit World) so he can come back to the living
world. It was not yet his time to die. When Yusuke saw the Prince, he
started making cracks bout his wearing a pacifier. Botan silenced him,
and Koenma told him what he had to do to come back again.
Sacrifices:
An egg that will lay a youkai was handed to Yusuke for him to take care
of. In order for it to hatch, Yusuke must do good deeds in order for a
good youkai to come out. If all he did are evil things, then, the youkai
inside the egg will eat him.
His chances of coming back almost became impossible when
somebody threw a bomb at Yusuke's place (who was not identified in the
series), where his body also laid breathing. When Keiko, his childhood
friend saw this, she rushed inside to rescue his body, but she was
trapped on her way out. To save her, Yusuke threw the egg containing the
youkai into the flames, and it cleared a path for Keiko. Kuwabara,
Yusuke's rival and friend at the same time, arrives at the scene, and
helped Keiko rescue Yusuke. They emerged out of the flames, with
only Keiko's hair damaged.
Another Chance:
Yusuke thought he wouldn't have a chance to live, since the egg was
gone. But Koenma informed him that the egg posed as a test to see what
he will do. Once the egg hatched, it will it him anyway, so it's better
that he threw it in his house. To live, Yusuke will have to inform three
persons who wanted him back that they watch his body and wait for it to
glow. Once it glowed, one of them will have to kiss him to bring back
his ki (energy). Of the three people he talked to thru their dreams, it
was Keiko who understood what he meant.
Coming Back:
Keiko's mother was brought to the hospital that same day, and she stayed
with her mother until almost midnight. She only remembered Yusuke when
Botan made use of her sick mother. Keiko rushed to Yusuke' apartment,
and saw him glowing. Following her dream's instructions, she knelt down,
and kissed him.
Yusuke sat up after a few moments, and escaped the
possibility of a 50-year wait.
History of Being a Youkai:
He discovered that he has youkai blood and isn't fully human during his
fight with Sensui. His father, Raizen met a woman from Makai (not
Atsuko, Yusuke's human mother) and they bore Yusuke. The spirit of his
fetus fled to Ningenkai (Human World) an possessed the child inside
Atsuko's womb. She bore Yusuke, not knowing that he is a youkai, and
they led a normal (fatherless on Yusuke's part) life.
