EPISODE NINE: GENKAI'S TOURNAMENT

Now that he has completed his first mission, Koenma was pleased with Yusuke's progress. He told Botan to assign his next mission immediately and it took place right before Yusuke's vacation. As it turns out, Genkai, an old friend of Koenma, was in search of a worthy successor—someone who will use his ki for good. In order to do so, he organize a tournament, where the winner will inherit his powers. Hundreds of youkai are interested on this power, and Rei kai wanted Yusuke to win. He also needed to find Randou, a powerful youkai who killed 99 persons for their rei ki, and he uses humans to test his strength. They found out that he, too, like the others, is after Genkai's ki and it's Yusuke's job to stop and eliminate him.

Botan was sent to talk to Yusuke and she learned how important Yusuke's vacation is to him. She decided to use another tactic: bribery. She held out a Battledome Ticket, which she knew Yusuke wanted to see. Her condition: if Yusuke wins, he'll get to see his favorite team. Yusuke took the bait and he huffed up the staris to Genkai's temple. 

There, he saw a lot of participants going after Genkai's ki. He met Kuwabara, whose intentions were to achieve peace of mind. Later, Yusuke learned that Kuwabara wanted to be taught how to calm his raging rei ki so he will be stronger. They stopped talking when Genkai made her appearance. To everyone's surprise, she was a small old woman. But she proved her strength when she used her eyes to avoid an obstruction on her temple. For her elimination round, she asked everyone to pick a small sealed envelope on a jar. If the paper inside the envelope is colored red, then you passed the round. The rest will go home. Two thugs refused to leave in peace and Genkai fixed that up. The rest didn't know that the paper automatically changes color when it thinks you have enough ki to enter the tournament. Both Yusuke and Kuwabara got in

They entered a huge room full of arcade games. The game paper, scissors and stone will test your strength; the punching bag will test your rei ki; the karaoke will test how much more ki is left after the two strenuous activities. Yusuke got 155 points on the punching bag while Kuwabara got 129 points. Kibano, another participant, got the highest point with 179. Genkai was impressed with Yusuke and was impressed with Kuwabara when he got a high score on the papers, scissors and stone. 

After that round, he led the remaining participants into a forest, where strange creatures live and no ordinary human can enter (Kuwabara is an exception since he is one of those extraordinary human beings, possessing strange ki and all). He was the first to reach the tree where Genkai will meet them. Yusuke took the straight path, where he  thought it would be the quickest way to reach the tree. There, he encountered leeches, snakes, and even a large human-sized bat. Still, he reached the tree just before everyone was about to leave. Gasping, he told Genkai about his adventure, and that's where he found out that nobody escaped the bat before. Yusuke was the first one to make it, and so, despite his lateness, Genkai decided to make an exception, seeing that he has the potential to win. 

Koenma was watching over the tournament at Rei kai and hoped that Yusuke won't forget that he was obliged to win and was still in a mission. He had to find Randou before he gets Genkai.
