EPISODE FOUR: KEIKO'S HIDDEN AFFECTION
Yusuke Urameshi's energy is now back, determined to not let an egg be an obstacle to his return in Ningenkai (Human World). Still, despite his enthusiasm, he wasn't used to being good and doing things the correctly, and earning things for that. Botan encouraged him to do so, then she casually mentioned that a spy from Rei kai will arrive soon to investigate and observe Yusuke during his spirit days.
In an instant, a small girl with blue hair (much darker than Botan's) came from nowhere, and introduced herself as the Rei kai spy. Her name is Sayaka. She told them that all she needed to know was whether Yusuke's loved ones wanted him back alive. She even started looking for Yusuke's "girlfriend", Keiko, and wondered out loud if she wanted him back. Yusuke didn't know what Keiko wanted, but he did know that they weren't a couple, and he wasted his breath telling them so. No one listened, of course.
Sayaka immediately observed Yusuke's girlfriend. She had seen that Keiko was smart, a good athlete (a mean volleyball player), a good friend and even the possibility that she might not have feelings for Yusuke after all. But after she had seen Keiko turn down a suitor, she thought that her observations may be wrong.
That day, Keiko decided to visit Yusuke's body, and had found him inside a very messy apartment. Atsuko was nowhere to be found, and she left Keiko a note, stating that Yusuke is left to her hands. Seeing the apartment's state, she resolved to clean up later, after she finished giving Yusuke a sponge bath. At the process of cleaning him up, she suddenly found herself attracted to his lips, and was about to lean down to kiss him. Botan and Sayaka, who were watching from above with Yusuke, who was squirming and begging her to stop, were thrilled to discover her hidden feelings for him. Before their lips touched, Keiko remembered that she was actually asked by her mother to run errands, and she pulled away just in time. Yusuke breathed a sigh of relief.
The moment that she left, an unknown person threw a burning can soaked in gasoline inside Yusuke's house. Fires easily spread at that time because of the weather. Yusuke saw that his house was burning and he went inside to his room to try and wake up his body. Seeing Yusuke so helpless (both the spirit and the body), Botan realized that it was up to her to find help.
Keiko was off running errands, when she saw a huge smoke. Her instincts told her that it was near Yusuke's house, and she immediately thought of Yusuke and she dashed to the 5th street, where his house was located.
Botan found Kuwabara punching a dummy of Yusuke. The dummy was tied behind a tree. The moment she neared him, he froze, and felt the spirit that was hovering behind him. Somehow, he understood what she was trying to tell him and he set off to Yusuke's residence.
When Keiko saw that it was Yusuke's house that was on fire, she immediately soaked herself, and she dashed right inside to save him, despite the warnings the onlookers told her. She found Yusuke covered with his burning blanket and wrapped him in a large blanket, so he will not suffer any injuries. With a few feet away from the entrance, Keiko saw that she can never get out. Yusuke from up above was desperate to save Keiko. He wanted her to leave him there and save herself. Keiko will never do that, and it was the Rei kai spy who told him what to do. If he threw the youkai egg into the fire, a road will appear that is safe enough for Keiko and his body to cross. Without any hesitation, Yusuke threw the egg, surprising both Botan and the spy herself. Keiko saw the road and dragged him there. Kuwabara came just in time to assist Keiko and together, they brought Yusuke out, away from the blazing fire.
Keiko unwrapped the blanket and Kuwabara yelped in surprise to find Yusuke inside. He helped rescue Yusuke, and the proof lay in front of him. Meanwhile, Yusuke was throwing a fit, for Kuwabara had once again touched Keiko. It was Sayaka that calmed him down by saying that he should learn to accept who Keiko will love in the future, since he can never come back. All he can do is accept it and be strong for what the future will bring to him. He was screaming and yelling about his recent state with Botan agreeing behind him.
Yusuke wandered off to their new place, and saw his mom speaking with Keiko. Keiko was standing behind Yusuke's body, who was sitting in a wheelchair and was still wrapped in a blanket. He heard Keiko saying to his mom that it was he who saved her from the fire. Atsuko smiled and leaned down towards Yusuke, saying that he should come back soon, and that they were all waiting for him to do so. Yusuke got annoyed at watching this and told them in a loud voice that he will never come back. Botan and the spy watched him from a distance, and sadly said to themselves that it was his choice, and he will just have to accept whatever consequence he will get for it. Finally, Yusuke demanded to take him to wherever they wish. He no longer cares where.
As soon as they set off, Koenma's face appeared in the sky and told Yusuke that he judged him wrongly. It seems that the spy had just sent to him her report, and realized that Yusuke was very much welcome to come back. He also took note of Yusuke's brave move to throw the egg into the fire, despite his knowledge that it will cost him his chance to go back. If he hadn't thrown the egg into the fire, when it hatches, whatever that's inside will eat him anyway, so he did the right thing. Koenma also told him that he's free to go back as soon as the arrangements were done. Hearing this, Yusuke cheered out loud along with Botan who was also glad with Koenma's news. Yusuke will now come back to life.
