EPISODE TWENTY-SEVEN: JOURNEY TO THE ISLAND

When Toguro Ototo showed himself to Yusuke, all Yusuke could do was stand up rooted to the ground. When he heard his message, Yusuke immediately sought help to Spirit Waves master, Genkai. After an extensive training and preparation, the time has come and the tournament is about to start.

The episode opens to a series of fight scenes by several youkai(s). It was followed by a narration that five selected members of the winning team will fight for the final leg of the tournament and whoever emerges alive gets the title of victor.

At the ship where the Urameshi Team (made up of Yusuke, Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara and the Masked Kid) had boarder, Yusuke was still fast asleep. Kuwabara was complaining that everyone aboard the ship are ugly-looking youkai(s) and not a single pretty girl in sight. He even noticed that there wasn't any food being offered around. When the captain of the ship announced a feast for the participants, Kuwabara mistook it as food. The feast turned out to be a match for all the teams aboard the ship.

Each team will select a member representing their group and the selected members will compete against each other. Whoever wins will entitle his team to go to the tournament while the rest goes home. Kuwabara volunteered to go first, saying that he's the strongest one around anyway, until a line of youkai(s) walked past him, each talking aloud on their plans of killing the humans. Kuwabara immediately backed off and began shaking Yusuke to wake up, saying that it must be him who should fight. Kurama took pity of Yusuke and told Kuwabara to stop it. The Masked Kid decides to represent the team and began walking to a mock arena inside the ship. Kuwabara doubtfully looks at the departing figure of their representative and Hiei assured him that if they lost, they'll kill every team member on the ship and proceed to the tournament held in the island.

Of course, Rei kai was following every movement that occurs on the tournament. Jorju points at the Masked Person and asked Koenma if he knew who it was. Koenma collapsed into tears, saying he doesn't know because nobody includes him in the decision-making of the group, even if he is the manager of it. He complained that even Botan hasn't been showing herself to him. Little did he know that she is in a tight squeeze at the moment.

In Yusuke's apartment, Botan pushed herself backwards as the insistent frames of Shizuru and Keiko loomed closer to her. Atsuko was sleeping in a corner and was unaware of what's happening. The two demanded to know where Yusuke and Kuwabara are which Botan denied into knowing. They persisted, knowing full well that she was aware of their whereabouts. Because she was feeling sorry for Keiko, she let them on on the secret. Shocked, Keiko fainted and when she recovered, she demanded Botan to take them there. Botan suddenly realized that instead of helping things, she's added more trouble to it.

The match in the ship turned out to be an interesting one. It was human vs. the rest of the monsters. At the arena, the youkai(s), who are representatives of their teams, flocked in one side of the round stage while the Masked Kid stood alone in another. The strategy of the youkai(s) was to finish the human first before fighting amongst themselves. The captain signaled the fight to begin and everyone started attacking the human participant. In single assault, using the ki in his fist, the Masked Person unleashed his power to them. The youkai(s) were hit with several shots of ki from the Masked Person's fist. Then, the fight was finished.

Everyone in Yusuke's team watched in admiration as the Masked Person calmly descended from the stairs of the arena. Kuwabara thought the weapon the Masked Person had used resembled Yusuke's shot gun a lot. he captain announced that the group who will fight in the island is Yusuke's Team and the news wasn't taken lightly by the losers. Following Hiei's strategy, they, too, decided to kill the humans and go to the island afterwards. Yusuke's Team wouldn't allow it and instant mayhem occurred on the very ship. Gangs of youkai(s) had surrounded Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara and the masked person each, and one youkai noticed Yusuke asleep in a corner. He approached him, ready to kill him, when Yusuke suddenly sprung up, his fists doing a lot of punches. The youkai was knocked down, cold, and Yusuke continued to punch in the air, saying something about being able to fight, and referring to an old woman. Then, he stopped and again fell asleep.

Everyone in the ship is gone and Kurama said Yusuke must have been dreaming. It was surprising to know that even in his sleep, Yusuke is still training himself and Kurama said that the preparations Yusuke had undergone are probably extensive and extreme to bring an effect like that. Again, Kuwabara made a connection when he heard Yusuke refer to an "old woman." Only one person had that nickname, and it was the Spirit Waves master, Genkai. He then wondered if she was their fifth member, but then, he knew Genkai wasn't the type to join tournaments and he couldn't really see her fighting in one. He easily dismissed his suspicions.

The captain of the ship seems to act as a spy for Sakyo. He immediately contacted Sakyo after the carnage, reporting that he hasn't learned anything from the fight because "those extraordinary kids" hadn't revealed their powers much. All he knew was the special guests to the Ankoku Bujutsuaki are powerful and quick.

Finally, the ship docked and the Urameshi Team (with Kuwabara carrying Yusuke on his shoulders) entered a hotal named Hotel Kubikukuri where a lot of businessmen following the tournament are staying in. Kuwabara was awed at the fancy hotel and figured that the trip could have been a vacation. A man met them in the lobby and showed them to their rooms. As they walked away, some of the talks turned to them. A businesswoman observed that they are still young and a businessman said that it wouldn't matter, since they were there to get cash.

Koenma was annoyed that he's stuck stamping papers with his seal when he supposed to be at his team's side. Jorju reasoned that he's under a lot of work right now, but Koenma said that anybody can stamp the papers. He's going to the tournament.

In their hotel suite, Sakyo and Toguro Ototo were talking about Yusuke and his newly-formed team. Sakyo said that tomorrow's match is an interesting one, since the team was against the Ryokoyuukai Team the next morning, a fight Toguro Ototo had considered to be worth the time to watch.

Inside their own suite, Kuwabara admired the hotel features. A man knocked and brought in coffee for all of them, something Kuwabara doubted that may have been poisoned Behind him, Yusuke was still asleep. Kuwabara dug into his bag and produced a power-tonic he had bought from home, saying that he'll drink it and not the coffee. The rest drank from the steaming-hot cups and were sipping into it contentedly when Kurama noticed that the one cup of coffee was missing. Kuwabara caught on and said that there must be two extra cups of coffee instead of one, since there are two of them who wasn't drinking it. From behind them, a small figure sitting on top of a cabinet drank his coffee. They found the missing cup!

Before he introduced himself, the intruder explained how he got it. His name is Rinku, and his team will be the first one to fight with the Urameshi Team. Toying with the now-empty cup, Rinku advised the people before him to forget about the prizes and the title because they'd be defeated tomorrow. He was about to say more when another voice cut him. He introduced himself as Zeru and together with Rinku, they walked out of the room.

Outside, Zeru asked Rinku what he thought of Yusuke, whom he referred to as the sleeping one. Rinku shrugged his shoulders and said he hadn't thought much about him. Zeru didn't like the way Yusuke had ignored their warning and tried to shake off the bad feeling he has for tomorrow.

The next day, fireworks signaled that the tournament is officially open. The fight is about to start, but Yusuke was still fast asleep. Is the Urameshi Team really ready for what the tournament may bring?
