EPISODE TWENTY-ONE: THE FINAL BATTLE BETWEEN YUSUKE AND SUZAKU

The seven Suzakus moved in for the kill. Summoning the lightning and again forming a bow and arrow, they took aim and fired at Yusuke. At the brink of releasing the lightning, Suzaku realized that his powers had somehow weakened during the match and Yusuke was to blame. Yusuke wouldn't give up. He released his ki and all seven of his opponents were hit, sending them all sprawling at the floor. He saw the whistle fly by and land a couple of feet away from him.

At Ningenkai,  Keiko an Botan were running for their lives. They had a brush with death when they were trapped in the room with the possessed humans and now, they were being chased as they make an escape. Both girls glanced at their backs to check if their opponents were gaining on them, that's why they didn't know that someone was was waiting for them upfront. With a metal tube, Botan was hit at the temple and Keiko desperately caught her. A sudden realization hit her: They were surrounded!

Yusuke saw all this at the castle, and he wanted nothing more, but to get his hands on that whistle. Because he was drained, all he could do was drag himself towards the whistle. Muruge has read his intent and flew by the whistle and pushed it father away with her beak. Instantly annoyed, Yusuke pointed his index finger at her, threatening her that if she makes another move against him, he would not hesitate to release his ki towards her. Muruge was visibly shaken and thought that Yusuke was obviously bluffing, but when she saw the look in his eyes, she backed out immediately.

Jorju was glad that for the first time, Yusuke showed a different attitude when fighting. This time, he said, Yusuke is fighting. Koenma thought otherwise. He knew that the tantei was very weak. Another thought occurred to him: Has Yusue changed?

Continuing his pace, Yusuke was just a few inches away when a foot jammed is hand down. It was Suzaku. Muruge was glad that Suzaku was able to recover so quickly. Suzaku immediately supplied the proof that Yusuke is indeed bluffing. He would have fired his rei gan at the whistle if he had any ki left, which he doesn't. Suzaku proudly declared Yusuke's weakness, which was the limitation of his weapon, the rei gan. He also said that Yusuke lacked concentration when it comes to attacking him.

Suzaku then showed Yusuke the true essence of his power. Raising his hand in the air, the souls of the other six Suzaku clones escaped the befallen bodies and met with him. All his wounds have healed, and Suzaku again divided into seven. Yusuke realized that the only way to defeat him was to defeat all seven at the same time.

Koenma urged Yusuke to fight, since he knew the tantei mustn't lose. Jorju pointed out that since Suzaku has a lo more ki than Yusuke, then, he could lose. They both watched in anticipation as the seven gathered their ki to release the arrows again.

Meanwhile, help was on the way. Hiei, Kurama and Kuwabara had fought ruthlessly and they were on their way up the circling stairs attached to the walls of the tower. When the castle shook, they watched, frozen, as the stairs in front of them crumbled to pieces and fall to the bottom of the tower. The ones behind them suffered the same fate and the next stair was a couple of feet up in the air. A thought crept up to them. How is Yusuke doing at the fight?

At the tower, Yusuke weighed his chances of winning. He wondered just how much ki he had left or if he really had none. If all his energy is gone, then, he realized, the fight wasn't really fair! The arrows were released and all of them were heading straight towards him. Yusuke met them head first and the force of impact sent is sailing to the ground.

As Suzaku watched Yusuke struggle to stand up, he knew that the arrows were harmless to Yusuke. He had a troubling thought that he had weakened and it was because he was hit with Yusuke's rei gan earlier during the fight! What Suzaku didn't know was Yusuke was having trouble himself. He knew that at his state, he wouldn't be able to protect himself any longer from the force of Suzaku's strength.

Hiei took aim and threw his sword with all his might. Then, Kurama used his rose whip to grip at Hiei's word, which was lodged in the stone stair which was above them. He instructed the two of them to hold on to him as they attempt to get to the next step.

Seeing that Suzaku was in a hurry to finish the fight, Yusuke's eyes darted on the screen, where he saw Keiko and Botan trapped. He heard Keiko's scream when their teacher held a pair of sharp scissors menacingly to her. By instinct, Yusuke was able to send a trail of ki to Ningenkai, which twisted the teacher's hands and opened his palms. Suzaku witnessed all this and he realized that Yusuke's power source was from Keiko, the girl from Ningenkai.

It all happened quickly. Yusuke's power increased at an alarming rate that when Suzaku attacked, Yusuke met him and the others arrived just in time to see the final assaut. There was a large explosion and even the whistle was shattered with the impact.

When the dust cleared, Yusuke and all seven of the Suzakus were down. The original Suzaku uttered his final words, congratulating Yusuke for a job well done, before he sank back down, dead.

Koenma burst into cheers, but was interrupted by Jorju who said that Yusuke had used up everything, including his soul, just to succeed in the mission.

Anticipating the pain brought about by the scissors sinking deep into her flesh, Keiko pressed her eyes shut. When she felt nothing, she glanced up and saw that the zombies surrounding the two of them had all collapsed on the floor, out cold.

The others rushed to Yusuke's side. Kurama felt around for a pulse and he found none. Kuwabara then volunteered to transfer some of his ki to Yusuke just so he could recover, despite Kurama's protests that he is also weak. Kuwabara went on with the transfer and collapsed next to Yusuke. Hiding an impish smile, Kurama announced to Hiei, who didn't like the news, that they'd have to carry the two of them home. Hiei grumpily said that he doesn't understand how someone could help another, and risking himself to a situation that has an unsure outcome. Kurama casually said that they're humans, but still, Hiei insisted tht he couldn't do that to anyone, let alone a friend.

Days later, Yusuke awoke to the warm sunshine and wondered where he was. He saw Kuwabara and Kurama beside the bed he was resting on, and it was Kuwabara who told him that he was at his house. School was out and he volunteered to help Yusuke explain what happened to Atsuko. Then, the two claimed he was sleeping for three days, but Yusuke honestly said that his body was still shaking! Then, he remembered and cautiously asked about Keiko and Botan.

The expression of the two were indescribable. They refused to say anything and it drove Yusuke wild, that he grabbed onto Kuwabara's collar and drew his face close, repeating his question coherently. He was so close to panic that the the door suddenly opened and lo behold! It was Keiko and Botan, demanding why he was shouting.

Yusuke's face turned to a hundred or so expressions before he heard Kuwabara laughing. Kurama said that he knew Yusuke wouldn't appreciate the joke. At sundown, Yusuke walked with Keiko home, keeping a careful distance away from him. He thought of ways to approach her, but he was stopped by the nagging feeling that she's mad at him. He knew that he couldn't blame Keiko for getting mad at him. After all, it was he who brought all those troubles to her. He consoled himself into thinking that after an explanation, everything would be better once again.

Walking a few steps ahead of Keiko, Yusuke stood in front of her and launched into an apology. He said that she'll accept any kind of punishment she would give him, just so she could forgive him. Since Keiko's face was blank, he couldn't read any reaction from her. Finally, when he saw Keiko raise her hand, he winced, assuming that he'll be slapped on the cheek. But it wasn't the dreadful slap. Keiko wanted Yusuke to promise to her that the next time he'd disappear, he'd tell her first and she'd understand. She said that she doesn't like hearing things from other people.

In relief, Yusuke walked a few steps ahead of her, bursting into more explanations and refusing to give his word. Keiko barged on, asking for it. At last, the ningenkai is safe once again.
