EPISODE TWO: KOENMA AND THE NEW SPIRIT

Yusuke Urameshi decided to go back to life with Botan's help. She brought him to the Rei kai Palace and he was surprised to see oni(s) (look at Jorju Saotome) bustling around making the place look like a market. Yusuke couldn't help telling Botan so. She told him to be quiet for they are in Enma Daioh's territory. She told him to show the necessary signs of respect and never be rude in front of Enma-sama.

They entered an office, and there, Yusuke saw a toddler standing behind the table, whose head barely poked out of it. When he realized that it was the one Botan was afraid off, he scoffed a rude remark and pointed at him, stating that this baby can never be your boss to Botan. She automatically whacked him on the head for being rude, and had shut his mouth up.

The toddler introduced himself as Koenma, Enma Daioh's son and the Rei kai Prince. He told Yusuke to show him some respect for he is a lot older than he thinks he is. Yusuke bit back a guffaw and listened to Koenma as he told him what his challenge will be.

It is an egg. The egg contains the spirit of a youkai (demon) and this demon will depend on it's holder's ki (energy). If the holder is up to no good, and does evil things, the egg will hatch a gruesome monster and it will eat its holder. However, if the holder is good, then the monster won't eat its holder. His heart will still beat, and his body awaits for his spirit. The success of this challenge, as Koenma put it, is in Yusuke's hands.

Yusuke contemplated on the egg for a while after they left Rei kai. Botan reminded him that the next task to be done is to keep his body from being buried. With no body to return to, Yusuke is as good as dead. To do that, he must talk to someone close to him in their dreams to let them know that he will come back, and that they should wait for him.

They decided to pay a visit to Atsuko, Yusuke's mother. She was drunk then, saying that of all of the ways Yusuke chose to die, it was in a car accident. She got herself drunk for she didn't know what will happen to her, now that she's all alone. When Yusuke saw this, he knew that Atsuko is not the right person to approach. In the end, they went to Keiko.

He entered her room, marveling at how neat it was compared to his. She saw her plopped in a futon (mattress) and saw that there were tears in her eyes. Curious, he plunged into her dream.

Inside Keiko's dream, she was chasing after Yusuke, who was walking away from her, and her cries refuse to stop him. Finally, Yusuke turned towards her, and told her that he will come back. She should wait for him, and he left her his word. Yusuke was sitting on her when this happened, and he immediately floated upwards when she subconsciously muttered his weight. When Keiko woke up, she felt the tears in her eyes, and was positive that Yusuke has been with her the time she was having the dream.

The next day, Keiko went to the Urameshi residence, and was greeted by the groggy Atsuko at the door. She asked Keiko if she had any dreams about Yusuke lately. His mom confessed to Keiko that she does have one, and it is about Yusuke defeating monsters and his being a king to rule them all. Keiko, who was worried about Atsuko's reaction, decided not to tell her about the strange dream she had the night before.

Yusuke was getting impatient. There was no way he'll wait for them to go back to sleep again! Botan told him of another way. He has to possess the body of a person that is tough and is close to him. He couldn't think of anyone like that, and Botan suggested Kuwabara.

They hovered near him, and two souls are enough to get Kuwabara's radar triggering again. He felt the cold aura that he gets when souls are nearby. He had mistaken them as the old lady that seems to be near him all the time, but when he felt that they are weaker souls, he told his friends that it might just be a dog or cat---something weak.

That drove Yusuke mad. He couldn't take that he was mistaken as a weak soul, let alone a cat or a dog. Botan made him realize the consequences he'll have if he refuses to give up his pride. She gleefully declared that he will soon be buried 6 feet under. Yusuke came to his senses and agreed to be inside Kuwabara.

He only has an hour, and his time will run up when the sun sets. He immediately looked for Keiko, but she was nowhere to be found. 10 minutes were wasted when he stopped at the ramen shop (the noodle restaurant Keiko's family owns) and insisted he was Yusuke. Keiko's parents told him she was out, and they insisted that it's  impossible for him (who contains Kuwabara's body) to be Yusuke. They claimed Yusuke as a good-looking lad, and he certainly wasn't one. He left the shop thinking of Keiko's whereabouts and his precious time, when a group of students seeking for revenge blocked his way. They mistook him for Kuwabara, for it was the body he possessed. His declarations of being Yusuke did him no good, and he was forced to fight his way out of the revenge-seekers.

With a few minutes left, he spotted Keiko's friends outside a local shop. When he asked them where Keiko could be, they screamed in fright and hurriedly ran away from him. They were probably shocked at the way Kuwabara's face deformed after his fight. Yusuke followed them with his gaze in wonder. To his luck, Keiko emerged from the shop, and he had gotten her attention by flipping her skirt upwards. Keiko smacked him and apologized when she saw Kuwabara's deformed face, saying that it was Yusuke who frequently does those things to her. Somehow, Yusuke managed to convince her to see him for who he is inside---as Yusuke Urameshi, She did, and he was able to tell her not to let his body be buried and that he will come back. Keiko was unable to control her emotions, for she felt that it was really Yusuke in there and she dissolved in his arms, weeping.

His minutes were up, and Kuwabara was back. He gleefully assessed who he was holding and found that it was Keiko. She regained her composure and smacked him hard, thinking it was still Yusuke. She apologized when she realized that it was the real Kuwabara and she took off.

She went to the Urameshi residence, and saw Atsuko smiling triumphantly at her. She told Keiko that she had taken a peek at Yusuke to see him one last time, when she felt his heart beating. Yusuke was alive, and Keiko realized that he will keep his promise to her.

From above, Yusuke watched the two, who were hugging and their tears of happiness ran down their radiant faces. He said to Botan that he hoped the egg will hatch soon, for all he did today were good deeds. It was unusual for him, he said, and Botan contradicted him, saying that all he did was fight. Once again, she was right.
