EPISODE NINETEEN: YUSUKE VS. SUZAKU
Kuwabara was right. There was something wrong in Ningenkai. Suzaku was sending the infected/possessed humans after Keiko in order to capture her and trigger Yusuke's weakness and later on, defeat. There was nothing Yusuke and the others could do, but quicken their pace, and that's what they did. They reached the end of the stairs and came across a tower whose only entrance was occupied by zombies.
Back in Ningenkai, Keiko was being madly chased by the humans. Running for her dear life, a hand suddenly reached out and clamed her mouth shut. She felt herself being pulled towards the bushes. When the hand let her go, she recognized the person as Botan. Relieved that Keiko was safe, Botan opened a compact to communicate with Yusuke. There, she reported that everyone in Ningenkai was fatal to both her and Keiko. Before she could say anything more, the humans found them and they had to run away again.
Losing connection with Botan, Yusuke worried over the two of them. Knowing that he has to fulfill his mission first, he focused on doing his task. Zombies continued pouring out of the entrance, and there was no way for them to get to the tower's window. Facing the zombies would take too much time. He decided to blast them all with his rei gan, but Kurama stopped him, since he needed to conserve his energy.
As a solution to their problem, Hiei presented his idea. Everyone agreed that it was the best they can do and immediately ran in line to the base of the tower in this order: Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei and Yusuke. The formed a human tower of their own, with Kuwabara as the base and stepping stone for the rest that followed. Everyone stepped on Kuwabara's back; each one rests on one another's shoulders. Finally, it was Yusuke's turn and from Hiei's shoulders, he gave a giant leap. His fingers managed to touch the window and he got a good grip. Then, he headed off, thanking the others and promising to finish the job.
Keiko tried to contact the people outside her school only to find out that all phone lines were disconnected. The humans wanted them isolated from the outside world. Thinking of another way to escape, she tried the teacher's lounge to ask help from other teachers.
Inside, they found the teacher who was Yusuke's friend and there, she cried for help. It was then when they touched the teacher that he slumped over the table, his face red and bruised. The two were too shocked to realize that their enemy was behind them, and again, they managed to avert it.
Suzaku was not pleased with Yusuke's success. He and Muruge continued to plot against Yusuke using Keiko. In a screen in front of him, he watched as Keiko and Botan were cornered by the humans.
Keiko planned on running away to save Botan, since she was the only one being chased by the humans. Botan argue that she wouldn't leave her alone there and that they were in the situation together. Suddenly, a plan hatched and they faced their opponents with confidence. Botan spotted a fire extinguisher on the corner and made a move on it while Keiko moved to the other direction. As expected, Keiko was swarmed by her perpetrators. Unleashing her knockdown slaps, she did just that, and was successful at first. When a hand grabbed her hand, she was defenseless and luckily, Botan had gotten her hand on the extinguisher and sprayed Keiko's attackers. One more blocked their way and Keiko again slapped it on the face, sending it unconscious. She took the moment to panic for hurting a teacher, but Botan's pleased reaction brought her to senses.
After climbing the stairs, Yusuke reached the end and panted, coming across a big screen. Finally catching his breath, Yusuke's gaze darted on his right, and there he saw a person playing a flute beneath the screen. It was Suzaku.
But it wasn't him that made Yusuke freeze to his place. It was what he was seeing at the screen. Keiko!
Rage boiled inside him, and he attacked Suzaku. Sending a his fast fists on Suzaku, Yusuke continued his offense, while Suzaku defended himself with one arm. Shocked at this, Yusuke continued on doing so until Suzaku jumped away from him and the only thing his fist caught was Suzaku's sash. Deciding to unleash his powers, Suzaku summoned the thunder that rumbled above him and cradled it on his hand. Aiming it at Yusuke, he passed him with it, and Yusuke dropped to the floor, shocked and electrocuted.
At Rei kai, Koenma and Jorju were following the events on the castle and were shocked as well at Yusuke's condition. Both claimed to can't stand seeing someone electrocuted, but Koenma proved that despite that, he still has an appetite for Japanese delicacies.
Thoughts ran across Yusuke's head. He couldn't believe that even if he didn't come in contact1 with Suzaku's thunder, he felt as if a thousand volts ran on his body. Gathering enough strength, he stood up and took of his shoes. He inserted his hands on the each shoe and faced Suzaku barefoot. With this he declared fighting Suzaku with all his might. Suzaku just laughed at his declaration and launched another one of his thunder.
This time, Yusuke was prepared. He held his hands in front of him and shielded himself against the thunder2. Then, from behind the shoes, he mustered enough strength to send Suzaku hurling to the other side of the room. Disbelief was evident on Suzaku's face, and he promised to be careful with Yusuke. Yusuke on the other hand, figured that he'll keep on defending himself with his shoes. Thus, the fight went on.
__________
1 I said that Yusuke was indeed electrocuted. It was a common conclusion that we can draw from Yusuke's reaction and to the effects on his body after the thunder supposedly passed him. Even if it was said in the episode that the thunder didn't touch Yusuke, I will still use the term electrocuted, as means of describing his situation.2 Just a bit explanation here on why Yusuke used his shoes. In Physics, an object where electricity can flow is called a conductor. An example of that is the human body. To stop the electricity flow, an insulator must be used, which is the opposite of a conductor since it stops the flow of electricity. Rubber is an example of that. The rubber soles of Yusuke's shoes prevented him from absorbing electricity again. Now, who said Yusuke was dumb?
