EPISODE EIGHTEEN: HIEI VS. SEIRUU

After Kuwabara defeated Byako, Yusuke and the others headed to fight with the next beast, Seiruu. On their way there, they came across a room with a lot of doors. Only one of the doors would lead them to the next beast, and if you choose the wrong door, they may never escape it alive. Kurama said he heard no one was able to come out of those doors alive, so they better be careful. Yusuke asked Kuwabara which door to enter, and he said that it should be the second door to the right.  A huge amount of ki can be sensed from it, and so, they went on with their journey.

Seiruu and the fourth beast, Suzaku, found out how they discovered the correct door, and were annoyed at the act that they coming for them now. Seiruu promised to defeat them and they made plans to come to Ningenkai together.

They finally reached Seirru's door, which was decorated with dragons and gold trim. It opened automatically, and Yusuke led the way in. Inside, they can sense the strong ki occupying the room, and they saw Seiruu. Before the fight started, they felt someone else's ki coming from outside. That's when Hiei realized that it came from the last room they've been in: Byako!

It was Byako. He begged Seiruu to lend him some ki so he could finish the four of them, but Seiruu refused. He said Byako was a disgrace, and he turned him to ice. With one ninja kick, Byako shattered into pieces, his head falling right off. As they glanced at his head, they couldn't help noticing the frozen tear that glistened in his eyes. Kuwabara claimed to feel pity for his opponent, and Yusuke was angry at what Seiruu did to his comrade. Hiei then decided it was his turn to fight Seiruu.

Taking off his black cloak, he tossed it to the ground, perfectly covering Byako's head. Thinking of this as his act of mercy, Seiruu mocked Hiei, saying he has the same nature as they and that he should join their forces. Hiei said nothing and posed himself in a striking stance, his katana in hand. Kurama said Hiei may have done the same thing Seiruu did, but seeing it done in front of his eyes, he may be confused¹. When Seiruu let out a huge amount of energy, Hiei stopped it with the help of the ki oozing out of his body and his katana. It narrowly missed Kuwabara and shattered the wall beside him instead.

Annoyed that Hiei had withstood his power, Seiruu tried to turn him into ice, throwing his ki wherever Hiei may be. The room that was once dry turned top ice. Even Kuwabara's hair was partially frozen. Seiruu stopped attacking and Hiei settled in front of him, his right leg up to his knee iced. Seiruu launched his final attack and Hiei met it with his katana. After that, Seiruu saw that Hiei successfully escaped his blow unharmed, except for another frozen leg up to his knee and a frozen right hand. Seiruu vowed that on his next attack, Hiei would turn into another Byako. But Hiei didn't give him a chance. Seiruu's vision blurred, and a trickle of blood appeared on his forehead. His body exploded as soon as he realized Hiei had slashed him during their face off.

The others cheered at their victory. Hiei said he slashed Seiruu 16 times, and Yusuke said he had only seen 8 or 9 of his move. He said that he might even lose if he and Hiei fought again. Instead of barging into another bragging attack from Hiei, he silently picked up his cloak, and watched as Byako's face dissolved into water. Kurama noticed this and said Hiei must've started to like the two of them that's why he didn't brag about his strength.

Suzaku found out what had happened and asked Muruge, his pet phoenix(?)² about any vital information regarding Yusuke. She said Yusuke's weakness is Keiko, his girlfriend, and using the flute, he immediately directed the insects and those infected to Yusuke's school.

Botan gave a report to Koenma. She said that a lot of humans are being possessed by the insects, and she wanted to know if there is any way they could stop it. Koenma gave her the bad news. They have to wait for Yusuke and the others to finish the mission first. There is no other way. At the same time, she was surrounded by the infected humans, and Botan held on to her dear life. When they heard Suzaku's flute, they backed off, leaving Botan swatting her bat while her eyes are closed. Botan saw that her perpetrators are gone, and realized that they were headed to Yusuke's school, where Keiko was still in. 

She was finishing her project when a teacher (who was Yusuke's enemy) asked her about him. She said she had ho connection with Yusuke and the teacher was glad she had come to her senses. Keiko didn't like this and she stuck out her tongue behind his back. When she finished her project, she saw her teacher and without any warning it attacked her. His fist shattered the windows and Keiko ran out of her school, wondering what happened to her teacher. She noticed that infected humans like her teacher blocked the school's entrance, and she realized she was trapped.

At Makai, Kuwabara suddenly felt that something was wrong in Ningenkai. He told the others so, and Kurama couldn't help agreeing that something bad could've happened. Yusuke then thought that maybe, something bad has happened to Keiko.

¹ Seeing it happening to Byako may have made Hiei  realize how brutal that method is to use for other opponents. He's confused into whether he should remain evil or kill Seiruu who, in some aspects, have the same traits as he does.

² Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Muruge is a phoenix and not just an ordinary bird. In Fushigi Yuugi (an anime based with the Chinese Mythology), the four guardians have the same names as the four beasts of Makai. Coincidence? I don't think so. Suzaku is the phoenix and it makes sense that his pet bird is actually a phoenix. E-mail me for comments.
