EPISODE FOURTEEN: THE FOUR BEASTS OF MAKAI

Six months have passed since Yusuke left to train for Genkai. Keiko makes it a habit to come at Yusuke's house, in hope that he has returned. Atsuko wasn't really worried with Yusuke's absence because he once died, but now is living once again. On her way home, Keiko saw the rugged-looking Yusuke, and they immediately went downtown.

Now clean, Yusuke and Kuwabara waited for Keiko to bring back their sodas. Yusuke told Kuwabara about the training he had with Genkai: pointing his finger on a nail while hanging upside down with his ki supporting him, lying on a bed of nails, sitting on fire and catching the opponents ki. He admitted that he has learned something from it, and that's what Kuwabara wanted to see. Unfortunately, Keiko overheard their conversation which led them to go to the movies.

On the way to the movie house, Kuwabara noticed that Keiko was happy. He told Yusuke so, and said that she really was worried for him. Yusuke didn't think of it as a big thing, but Kuwabara  thinks so, and he decided to leave them alone. But before he gets the chance to leave, Yusuke notices a group following them. Making a weak excuse for Keiko, he and Kuwabara left to draw those following them or him away from Keiko.

They were a street gang, with knives hidden in their jackets. When they started to attack Yusuke, he held out his fist and let a powerful blast of ki stop them. After that, Kuwabara felt that something is still watching them. Spotting it, they chased it in the alleys of Japan. They skidded into a stop when they saw that what was watching them received a powerful blow from someone and collapsed into a heap on the ground. It was Botan.

Yusuke learned from Botan about his next mission. At first, he refused to do it, demanding that he had just arrived from some heavy training and he needs to rest. When he found out what's at stake, he was willing to hear what Botan has to say.

The four beasts of Makai formed a city where the most vicious youkai(s) live. All four of them have a long list of crimes at Rei kai. They wanted the barrier that separates them from the Ningenkai removed, making it faster for them to occupy Ningenkai in exchange for the flute that controls the Makai insects. The Makai insects are the ones that inhabits the bodies of those capable of doing evil deeds. But because they can only be seen by extraordinary beings (like Botan, Kuwabara and Yusuke), ordinary humans will think those possessed by the insects are mentally ill. Yusuke also learned from Botan that once the barrier disappears, they youkai from Makai can feed on the entire human race in a span of a day.

Kuwabara agreed to be part of Yusuke's mission. She said that only the official rei kai tantei should do the job. Yusuke disagreed. Seeing the portal that leads to Makai, he can't see himself going there all by himself. Before Botan could protest, Kuwabara jumped into the portal. Yusuke was then handed by a rei kai device, which will help him keep in touch with Botan, who will stay in Ningekai to take care of the insects there. Yusuke then realized that he had abandoned Keiko at the movie house and said that Botan should explain things to her. Imagining her anger, Botan protested, but she couldn't do anything because Yusuke disappeared on the hole.

They reached Makai a few moments later, and was greeted by youkai dressed in cloaks. As soon as they recognized their enemy, these youkai(s) launched there attack, jumping over Yusuke and Kuwabara. Because they were increasing in number, Yusuke and Kuwabara knew they' be easily beaten. That's when two flashes of light, a red one and a green one appeared from the sky, and scared off their perpetrators. Yusuke realized who they are: it was Hiei and Kurama.

After a brief explanation, and a lot of bickering on Hiei and Kuwabara's part, they headed to the castle of the four beasts. They saw a cave and the long path in it. Knowing that they have no other choice, they entered the cave. They were greeted by an eyeball with bat-like wings. It released the ceiling from above and it nearly crushed the group. That door acted as their welcoming committee. If one of them leaves, the ceiling will immediately crush them. If one rests for a while, letting the others do the job, it will still fall. The ceiling knows how much all four of them can take and gives the necessary weight to make them exhausted. The eye said that only cheats can enter the castle.

Can Yusuke and the others enter it?
