AUTUMN'S PROMISE EPILOGUE 2 years
later… The city
was particularly peaceful. It was organized, quiet... everything was
perfect. ...It got on my nerves! I needed a battle. I wanted to smell the
fresh blood of newly-killed prey. I haven't done any of that for the past
two years. I felt like going back to my violent ways of killing someone or
something. I had missed that part of me. "Hiei," Came
a familiar voice from beneath me. "You sure you don't want to come
down from there, and be like everyone else? I mean, Yusuke and Keiko-chan
are at the ramen restaurant..." *** Yusuke slurped his
ramen down. After he licked the bowl clean, he leaned back in his chair,
and patted his filled tummy. Yum! Keiko sat across him, her arms folded
across her bosom. "It's good, isn't it?" "Yeah, very."
He agreed. "Great. Glad to
know you enjoyed a free meal cooked by me." Keiko picked up his bowl,
and stood up. Was that sarcasm he
heard in her voice? Yusuke grabbed her
wrist before she had the chance to leave the table. "What now?"
She asked, annoyed. "Keiko,"
Yusuke smiled gently. The tone in his voice, and the look on his face made
Keiko almost drop the bowl. "Thank you." "For what?" "For cooking me a
wonderful meal today. For cooking me wonderful meals in the past. And for
cooking wonderful meals for me in the future." Yusuke replied. "Huh?
Future?" Keiko looked bewildered. Yusuke took out a small
case from his jeans pocket, and opened it. Resting in it was a
brilliantly-cut diamond ring. "...And thank you for...uh... for
being... Keiko." With that, he got down on one bended knee, and
proposed. "Keiko, will you marry me?" Keiko's reply? She
kissed him. *** The person continued.
"Kuwabara-kun and Yukina-chan are at the carnival..." *** "Kazuma-san, we're
so high! It has such a beautiful view!" Yukina said excitedly. No reaction from her
companion. "Kazuma-san?"
Kuwabara groaned.
"I think I'm gonna be sick!" His belly turned over as the ferris
wheel went round and round. "Kazuma-san, are
you all right?" Yukina asked worriedly. "You don't look too
well." And she was right; for Kuwabara looked papery-white, and
greenish at the same time. "Huh?" He
turned to face Yukina, and started to laugh. "I'm fine. I've never
been better, see?" He looked like he was about to cry. "Can we get some
cotton candy and chili dogs after this?" "Sure!" He
felt like he wanted to puke. "Anything for you!" "And ice
cream?" "Anything!"
Oh boy... Now he really didn't feel too good. The ride came to a
halt. Kuwabara hurriedly got out of the cable car, and fled to find a
bathroom. A puzzled Yukina stared after him, wondering what in the world
she had said wrong. A relieved Kuwabara
appeared a moment later. Yukina was sitting daintily on one of the park's
benches, waiting for him. "I'm back."
Kuwabara said. Yukina smiled.
"Can we get corn on the cob too?" Kuwabara disappeared
again. *** "I mean, don't you
want to have some fun like everybody else is doing?" I eyed the person
irritatingly... my 'best friend' Kurama, who was smiling ridiculously at
me. I glanced at him, only for a brief moment, and turned my head
elsewhere. "Hn." "Aren't you tired
of posts?" "I like it just
fine!" "Oh listen to
this," Kurama changed the topic. I looked down at him again, and saw
that he was flipping through some huge pieces of paper with human
printings on them. "It says here that a comatose patient, Fuukami
Eyako, has miraculously awakened and has fully-recovered. That's good
news!" "Hn!" I
snorted in reply. I really didn't understand how that could be good news.
I didn't want to listen to Kurama's useless banter any longer, so I
dropped out of sight. I leaped from tree to tree, rooftop to rooftop. I
was so caught up in my own thoughts that I didn't see the teenage girl
heading my way. I hurriedly flitted out of her path, but it seemed like an
eternity before my feet left the ground. As if in slow motion, I
gazed into her eyes. I had no idea if it was my imagination or not, but I
saw they were a dazzling shade of bright blue. She continued on her merry
way. When I looked at her again, her glassy depths were now a plain shade
of brown. Not to arouse any suspicion, I took off like a ghost, and came
to rest on another telephone pole. My eyes followed her, as she skipped
all the way to her school: Meiou High. I observed her for
several hours. There was a feeling deep within me that I couldn't
recognize. It was like a knot in my stomach. I felt a surge of electricity
flow to my jagan. It surprised me a little; but what shocked me was the
fact that I felt a sensation of warmth spread in my chest as I watched
her. *** "Eyako-chan,"
One girl said. "Wow, how were you able to survive that coma?" "We're so happy
you're all right!" Another declared. "Yeah... weren't
you a hopeless case?" Eyako turned pink.
"I-I... I guess so." "And at such a
young age too! Did you take sleeping pills or something?" One boy
asked. "N-no..."
Eyako faltered in reply. She hated people hovering over her like she were
some kind of freak. It made her feel like she was different from the
others. "I--I need to go. See you later!" She rushed out of the
hallway, trying her best to get away from the crowd. She ran, holding her
textbooks in her arms. When she turned the corner, however, she bumped
into someone. The force sent her stumbling back onto a wall. She dropped
her textbooks, and hit her shoulder. "Ouch!" Eyako
cried out. "Sorry," A
boy apologized. He helped her pick up the fallen books which were
scattered on the floor. "I'm Aranami Akori. Hi. New student." Eyako smiled at him.
"Fukami Eyako. Nice to meet you... I think." "Likewise,"
He replied, grinning. "Are you...uh... free for lunch?" "Not that I'm
expensive or anything; but yes, I am." She answered sweetly, as he
handed her her books. "I-I have to go. Home economics class.
Bye." *** "Eyako-chan,"
A classmate whined. "Could you help me with my cooking?" "Sure thing!"
"What did you make
anyway?" "I baked
gingerbread men." "Really? Oh let me
see, please!!" "Ok," Eyako
took off her coat, rolled up her sleeves, and tied an apron around her
waist. "But let's get to work first, shall we?" *** What I saw almost made
me fall off my rocker... or the post, for that matter...! What she held in
her hand minutes later was a tiny, edible replica of me! The spiky black
hair, the white star marking near my forehead, the black cloak... And then
I let in a sharp breath. I blinked several times to make sure my eyes
weren't playing tricks on me. There engraved on her right shoulder was a
scar. Who was this girl? I stared suspiciously at her, wondering. I had
yet to find out... *** He rotated his chair
around, as he lounged in it. Koenma sighed in contentment. At last the
Akuna-Kuanja saga was finally over. He stamped the pieces of documents,
piled them up, and stuffed them into the filing drawers of the table. Case
closed. "Koenma-sama,"
Botan's head peeked into the office. "So far we have no record of
Eisila anywhere. She's not on the death list. We've searched for two
years, but still there is no sign or trace of her." Koenma tucked his hands
under his chin, his elbows on the varnished gold table. "Just as I
thought; the mirror has granted her another chance to live due to her
unselfish wish to save Kurama." Botan beamed.
"That's wonderful! "But---" "KOENMA!!!!!!!!"
A booming voice echoed throughout the palace. "Uh oh..."
Botan whispered. Koenma scrambled to his
feet. "It's my father!! He must have found out about the treasures!!
YAAAAAHHH!!!!!" And so, our story ends here. Or does it begin again? Previous Chapter | Back to Fanfics _______________________________________________________ |
